RE: Places to see on route - TX to PA

I-81 in West Virginia, take exit 5, then RT 51E to Harpers Ferry National Park (about 15 miles) there is also a casino on the east side of Charles Town before you get to Harpers Ferry if your into stopping at casinos.

RE: Hanging your clothing

If your using plastic hangers, you might want to check several different stores, as I have discovered that the plastic hangers are NOT always the same size. I have some that are about 1 inch shorter than others (and no they are not kids hangers)

RE: It's time, my Sandy cat.....

Cat,
I am so sorry to hear that you had to let Sandy go to the Rainbow Bridge. You gave her a wonderful home and love for 16 years, and that love is what allowed you to realize it was Sandys' time to make the journey. It's never easy, but she is at peace and painfree now.
Hugs,

RE: Cheap GPS At Kohls on Friday

Sounds like it's definately worth trying, especially if you can get your DW to get it for you, as I'm guessing she won't have to go to the store at 4am either :W

RE: ATM and card reader.

Happening here in the eastern panhandle of WV. My bus aide had our credit union call her and tell her that her card was being used in Mexico. They caught the fradulent use and protected her account. I saw a show on this "card reader" thing, and it's small, so hard to see. They recommended if paying for fuel with your card, go into the store to pay, don't use pay at pump.

RE: Tow Vehicle Advice Needed!!

Surveyorjp,
No need to apologize, I just didn't want anyone to think I was bashing Dodge. IF the megaCab had been out when I bought the Ford I wold have bought it. Just my luck, seems I always purchase a little too soon. But, I do like my truck.

RE: Tow Vehicle Advice Needed!!

Any of the diesel trucks will serve you well. I see you have a bunkhouse, which hints that you have kids, and you mention maybe going to a 5th wheel, so a diesel crew cab makes sense. Chevy/GMC & Ford have roomy crewcabs, in the Dodge to have about the same amount of room go with the Mega cab. My son has the regular crew cab from dodge and he really misses ALL the room he had in his ford crew cab. Good Luck
No, your son has the Dodge Quad cab, and it is NOT a regular crew cab, but an extended cab with doors that open the other way. It is not fair to compare the Quad cab Dodge to the Chevy or Ford Crew cabs. A more fair comparison is between the Quad cab Dodge and the extended cabs from Ford and Chevy.
Also, the Mega cab will not be the same amount of room as the Ford or Chevy crews, it will be much MORE room. However the drawback of the Mega cab is you can only get it with the short bed. That is an issue for some folks, especially with 5ers.
SORRY, I didn't know the "technical" name for his cab configuration, other than TOO SMALL, And I agree the mega cab is the roomiest of them all

RE: Oil Change F250 $$$?

My school bus mechanic maintains my diesel F-350. I supply the Rotella oil(usually purchased at Tractor Supply), I get oil filter, fuel filter when needed, the air filter(just changed this service 52,500miles) at his discount price. Also just purchased ($16.00) that "petcock valve " on the water seperator so I don't have to use a 8mm allen wrench to drain the water should the need arise. He gives my truck a thorough inspection and I forget what the supplies cost but paid him 40 bux for doing the work and NOT ripping me off. Might not be quite as cheap, but the important thing is I "TRUST" him to do it right !

RE: BAL stabilizer in center of TT

HERE is a link to a post in the Sunlineclub.com , Eman had a 3rd set of jacks added to his Sunline, and had great results. Now, this Sunline has been on the road fulltime for 2 years, and it's amazing some of the places it has been towed to, so the jacks have been used a lot.

RE: I 81 VA cg for overnight suggestion

IF you don't make it into the Camping World and want hookups, I would go to Falling Waters, West Virginia exit 23, turn right abut 1.5 miles on right.
There is also a Flying J at VA 317
The Martinsburg, WV Wal-Mart between exits 12 & 13 have no overnight parking signs due to the fact that Wal-Mart does NOT own the property that the store sits on. But there is a Cracker Barreljust a little north in that same shopping area, and right next door to WalMart is a large parking lot with a Buffalo Wild Wings, and I don't recall seeing any No Parking signs there.
I left South Jersey in 1989 and have to admit, I am GLAD I don't have to go back there for anything, just got to crowded for me once the casino started to move in.
Have a very safe trip,
Kitty

RE: Anyone fulltime in a small trailer with single axle?

If your going to change the flat yourself, make sure the jack you plan to use will FIT under the trailer with a flat tire. When I had a flat on my single axle Sunline in Barstow, CA on RT 40, my jack would not fit under the traier, I ended up having to build a ramp, pull the flat tire up on the ramp so that my jack would fit under that side

RE: 6.0 Ford PowerStroke longevity/reliablility

I have a Jan '05 built F-350. It is totally stock, I now have 53500 trouble free miles on it. I keep to the scheduled maintenance, I can't honestly say that I drive it hard, because I don't have a reason to, and my Sunline really doesn't put that much of a load on it. My truck has a lot of highway towing miles on it because in '05, '06 & '07 I went west for 4/5 weeks each summer. My maintenance is done by my school bus mechanic that has a shop at his home. I hope I have a good one, because it's paid for, and being single it would be REALLY hard for me to do major repairs or replacement. When I was truck shopping, I looked at the big "3", Dodge was out because of the small back seat(no mega cab then), GMC/Chevy well, the ones I checked out just didn't appeal to me, everyone I looked at, if it was blue outside-it was blue inside, tan outside-tan inside, gray on gray, so I went with the Ford. I ran a '91 explorer for 170K towing a 16' Sunline lots of those miles. Maybe I'm just a FORD gal. IF everyone liked/drove the same thing, it would be pretty boring out there on the road.

RE: Update.....Tire Pads....

I park my Sunline on blacktop that is slightly sloped (live on side of mountain), so I have to use treated lumber to be level, BUT to keep the tires off the lumber I bought a 3' x 3' rubber fatigue mat from Lowes, cut it into 12" x 18" pads to put on the boards for my tires to sit on, and it had holes in it so any water can drain off. If I recall correctly it was like 30 bux.

RE: Snowbird vs. enconomy?

I-81 southbound thru West Virginia and the Flying J at exit 323 in Winchester, VA have been very busy with southbound RV'ers. If I was able to snowbird, I'd be right with them, but I have 8 more years to work :(

RE: change out hotwate heater element

First thing is to make sure you have a water heater that is both gas and electric or gas only and is it a Suburban or Atwad water heater? IF it is a gas/electric model then the heating element is replaceable by you. Depending how accessible the back of you water heater is will pretty much determine the degree of difficuilty. I am attaching a link to pics I took while replacing the heating element on my 6 gal Atwood. Access to the back of the heater was my biggest challenge, but I got it done.

RE: Truck camer to TT, why no generators?

I have an Onan 3600 LP installed in my Sunline. It is installed on the street side of my pass thru front storage compartment. I don't use it a lot, but it's been nice to have when I traveled out west and wanted to pull over for a nap, lunch break, or while sitting on the side of the road waiting for ERS. LP is not the most fuel efficient type of genny, but I went with that because the propane is already onboard, and truck is a diesel, didn't want to be carrying gasoline.
